One rule for every “one per customer”
Some limits are about fairness on a hot release. Others are about your margins on a welcome offer or a free sample. The problem is the same either way: a few shoppers find a way to take more than their share, and the limit you set in the cart doesn’t hold. DropGate caps how many each customer can buy and holds the cap where it counts, at checkout, not just in the cart where shoppers can slip around it.
- Hot drops. Cap how many units each customer can buy on a limited release, so a handful of resellers can’t sweep it before your regulars get a look.
- Welcome offers, free samples, one-per-customer promos. Keep the same shopper from claiming your first-order deal or free sample again and again with a fresh account or a throwaway email.
Limits that actually hold
- It holds at checkout. The limit is checked when a shopper actually pays, so editing the cart or pasting a checkout link won’t sneak in extra.
- One person counts once. A shopper who reuses an email (with dots, a plus sign, or a second account) or the same phone still counts as the same person, so they can’t quietly double up.
- Catches the close calls. If two orders land at the very same second and one slips through, DropGate spots the extra one right after and handles it.
- Nothing touches your theme. It works through Shopify’s own checkout, so there’s no code added to your store to slow it down or clean up later.
Built to trust before you switch it on
- Try it in preview first. See exactly what it would block on a real release or offer, without affecting a single live sale, until you are confident.
- Kind cancellations. If an over-the-limit order gets cancelled, the customer gets a friendly note explaining why, so no one is surprised by a refund.
- Honest about what it does. You decide what happens when someone goes over the limit: let it go, cancel and refund, or hold it for you to review. DropGate shuts down the easy workarounds. It will not claim to stop a determined reseller with two real names and addresses.
How it works
- Pick the products you want to limit, whether it’s a drop, a welcome-offer item, or a free sample. Set how many each customer can buy, and choose what happens if someone goes over.
- Save. DropGate switches the limit on for you. Nothing to add to your theme.
- Check your dashboard any time to see how many over-the-limit orders it stopped.
